Why 'Esther's Voice'?

The choice of Esther's Voice as the name for this collaboration was influenced by the description of Esther Queen of Persia as a ‘Leader as Intercessor' in the book Leading Ladies: Transformative Biblical Images for Women's Leadership by Jeanne Porter.

The Book of Esther in the Bible tells the story of a young Jewish woman who is married to the King of Persia, and who uses her influence with the King to avert the extermination of her people. Esther uses her placement in society to influence the lives of others, acting as an intercessor on their behalf. As Porter says, 'She facilitates the liberation of a group of people by telling the story of those who have no voice or who are not in a place to tell their own story'.
