Overview

The criteria for choosing Esther's Voice research priorities include:

  • Importance in addressing the needs of disadvantaged people, families and communities, with an emphasis on 'telling the stories of those who have no voice or are not in a position to tell their own story';
  • Relevance to the work and mission of all three participating organisations, including consideration of social justice and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and the appropriate ‘fit' with research and advocacy priorities of the individual organisations;
  • Extent to which new research is required to better understand the issue and consider positive options for social change; and
  • Capacity of Esther's Voice to undertake the style and scope of research necessary to achieve the required level of understanding, action and change.

Current projects under consideration include:

  • Accommodation and support for young people leaving care;
  • Young people who are aren't receiving adequate support through the mainstream education system;
  • Men and family violence;
  • Effective parenting and family support for struggling families during the early years up to and including the transition to school and the early school years;
  • Spirituality and human services practice.
  • The dignity of the human person and services for the mentally ill.
